We're trying to figure out how to get expdp convinced to use 'direct' rather than 'external table' mode when exporting rows from a table that is set with an RLS (Row Level Security) 'select' policy.

We were led to believe that if we granted EXEMPT ACCESS POLICY to the Oracle user doing the export data pump that 'direct' mode would be used, but it doesn't.

The table in question has approximately 125 million rows so the difference in export data pump times between 'direct' and 'external table' is quite substantial - 2 to 3 minutes in 'direct' mode, 10 hours in 'external table' mode.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this ?
